Frequency analysis of EEG data is almost always concerned with examining data in various frequency bins. The data in a frequency bin is the sum of the amplitudes squared (or power) of the DFT components within a specified frequency range. For example, the delta power bin often consists of the sum of all the powers of the frequency components between 0.5 and 2.0Hz. The delta power could of course be defined over a different frequency range. The reducing of the DFT data to the power in several frequency bins reduces the data to a manageable amount.
